Email Page Community Housing Improvement Program (CHIP) Grant Overview
- $266,000.00 for Homeowner Rehabilitation on a city-wide basis (we are hoping to rehab 8 homes with these funds);
- $68,000.00 for Home Repair on a city-wide basis (we are hoping to repair 10 homes with these funds);
- $83,000.00 for Down Payment/Rehabilitation Assistance on a city-wide basis (we are hoping to assist 3 homebuyers with these funds); and
- $58,000.00 for Private Rental Rehabilitation on a city-wide basis (we are hoping to rehab 2 rental units with these funds).
The balance of the grant provides for fair housing services and administration.
As of early September 2008, we have received well over 60 applications for various parts of the grant program. The current status of each part of the grant program is as follows:
Homeowner Rehabilitation – The ranking of applications received during the open application period (October 16, 2007, through January 31, 2008) has been completed and the applicants have been notified of their status by mail. It is not anticipated that we will have the funding to do any more homes during this grant cycle.
Home Repair – This part of the grant works on a first-come first-serve basis. A number of repair projects have been completed and several more are in the process of being evaluated and completed. Due to the number of applicants received at this point, we believe we already have more projects than available funding during this grant cycle.
Down Payment/Rehabilitation – We have assisted two homebuyers and have another in process at this point.
Private Rental Rehabilitation – We have not received any applications for this part of the grant program through early September 2008.
